1.) HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN COLLECTING / MAKING PINS.
It all started for me 9 years ago at a phish show when I was gifted a Pin Me Down Ghost. From then I was hooked. I started making pins early 2013. So I collected for a good minute before I started making pins in 2013. Phish pins used to hold an awards ceremony called The Pinnies that you can go watch right now on YouTube. In 2013 I won rookie of the year and gave my speech from a bath tub… it’s a sight to see.
2.) WHICH PIN TOOK YOU THE LONGEST OR WAS THE “HARDEST TO AQUIRE”
The pin that took me the longest to acquire was called the Lengthwise Spinner. This was back when I didn’t have many connection or help to get hard to find rare pins.
3.) HOW MANY TOTAL PINS ARE THERE IN THE COLLECTION OF TWIDDLE PINS?
Omg I have no idea. Hundreds. I have an album online in the Twiddle pins group on Facebook which was last updated in October 2019. There’s more than 100 more pins since then. I’m still missing approx 20 pins. All Steinmans. I will post new photos of the collection as soon as all the pins I already have from a few makers get dropped. I usually get lots of things well before drop. Makers look out for me for the most part and hold one of everything for me to keep the archive as complete as possible.
4.) WHY DID YOU FEEL COMPELLED TO START THE COLLECTION? IT’S VERY RARE TO HAVE SOME ONE IN ANY BAND COMMUNITY THAT HAS EVERY PIN!
I felt compelled to start the collection after receiving my first Twiddle pin the Indigo Trigger by Hosco Press. Since then my massive collection of Phish and Grateful Dead pins has to be put in storage to make room for the Twiddle archive. I haven’t stopped collecting Phish, Dead and truthfully everything else… I just don’t board them. I keep them in boxes while archiving Twiddle. Fred Hosman from Hosco press kept the Phish archive which was kept up for years until recently.
5.) WHICH PIN IS THE MOST POWERFUL PIN IN THE TWIDDLE PIN COLLECTION?
The most powerful pin to me is hard to say since I’m so intimate with them and created a lot of them. But, the original Frankie pin both numbered and unnumbered would have to be the honest answer for #1 most powerful. I could easily rank my top favorites and that pin would not be one of them. But it’s certainly the most powerful. I do say though the best Twiddle merch ever made were the coins. All much more powerful than any pin ever made in my honest opinion.
6.) IN ALL THE YEARS FOLLOWING MUSIC HOW MANY PINS DO YOU RECKON YOU HAVE GIVEN AWAY?
The Phactory has given away a lot Actually we stopped counting at 2000 but that announcement says 1000 – Twas a typo
7.) WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FAN MADE AND OFFICIAL PIN?
My favorite Fan made Twiddle pins have to be The Tibby shield by Chris Cawley.
My favorite official is the Psychedelic Frankie pin I just made I. Collaboration with Matt Appleman with art by Dean Russo.
